Cladding
The aim of coating construction components is to create surface properties that the base material does not have.
CLADDING
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
The aim of coating construction components is to create surface properties that the base material does not have. Important characteristics include:
- Corrosion resistance
- Wear resistance
- Thermal or electrical resistance or conductivity
- Optical properties
Often it is metals that are coated. Here methods are used whose principles of operation are known from joining technology, such as:
- Soldering
- Electric arc welding
- Shield gas welding,
- Plasma-powder welding
For heat sensitive or non-metallic components special processes have been developed, such as:
- Thermal spraying
- Vacuum-coating
- Electro- or immersion bath-galvanisation
- Chrome plating
ELME MESSER GAAS SOLUTION
Selecting the process and required gases often presents users with a complex task. We supplies gases and expertise for your needs.
Advantages
Coating a component enables the combination of various properties and leads to significant improvements, such as:
- Increased component lifetime
- Lowering pf production, material and maintenance costs
- Expansion of component functions
- Trouble-free operation of plants
Flame Spalling
Flame spalling is used for surface cleaning and pre-treatment of concrete and steel.
FLAME SPALLING
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Flame spalling is used for surface cleaning and pre-treatment of concrete and steel. Block burners with a series of closely spaced heating flames are guided directly over the surface to be cleaned.
When spalling concrete, the short-term heating of the surface leads to the flaking of a thin layer of weathered concrete. Any existing build-up, such as paint, moss or other contaminants, is also removed.
When spalling steel, rust, scale and other contaminants on the surface are burned or melted and mechanically removed by the pressure of the flame.
The result is a clean surface which is suitable for coating or welding processes. Common usage is, for example, in shipbuilding or bridge construction.
ELME MESSER GAAS SOLUTION
The right technology, combined with the right gases, influences economy efficiency and the effect on the base material. We supply gases and expertise for the relevant application.
Advantages
Compared to other processes, flame blasting provides the following advantages:
- Time saving
- Lower costs
- Less noise pollution
- Less equipment required
- Gentle on the base material
Flame Hardening
Flame hardening is the name given to short-term, localised heating and cooling of a component made of temperable steel.
FLAME HARDENING
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Flame hardening is the name given to short-term, localised heating and cooling of a component made of temperable steel. During heating, the austenitising temperature, and when cooling the so-called “critical cooling speed?, must not be exceeded. Hardening/tempering changes the steel´s structure. Using an excessive fuel gas flame can achieve an additional carburisation of the surface.
ELME MESSER GAAS SOLUTION
Fuel gas and oxygen are used to create the flame. We supplies gases and know-how for your requirements.
Advantages:
- Greater wear resistance
Flame Straightening
When flame straightening, small areas of a metallic component are heated using a fuel gas/oxygen flame.
FLAME STRAIGHTENING
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
When flame straightening, small areas of a metallic component are heated using a fuel gas/oxygen flame. Hot metal becomes fluid, expands and compresses. When cooled it reverts to becoming solid, shrinks and applies tensile stress to the rest of the component.
ELME MESSER GAAS SOLUTION
Fuel gas and oxygen are used to create the flame. We supplies gases and know-how for your requirements.
Advantages:
- Fast
- Environmentally friendly
- Economic efficiency
